Northern Cardinal

ABA 1

(Cardinalis cardinalis)

A familiar and favorite backyard friend, Northern Cardinal is the state bird of more states than any other species – Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia, and West Virginia. It has a number of  songs featuring very loud repeated whistles, and is easily spotted with its conspicuous bright red color and crest. The female is brownish red with a bright orange bill.
